I want to start out by saying I absolutely love the idea behind this set. The cards have all the vital information from every game played in the 2008 season. The score is displayed nicely on the front with a newspaper style headline written underneath. On the back is the box score, date, divisional standings, and a little summary of the game. With that said, the three packs of these that I bought will be the last three packs of this stuff I buy. I would love to have the complete season of the Cubs, but to do so I would have to buy a case of this stuff. The complete base set consists of 4,890 cards. I guess this set is geared toward that one guy who had nothing better to do than complete the Yankee Stadium Legacy set. Complete seasons are going anywhere from $80 to $150 depending on how well your team did this year. The cards are great, but I can’t see spending $150 on a team set. Then again I really want one. There are a handful of these cards that I must have, but the chances of pulling them out of packs are horrible. Even trying to find singles on Ebay is going to next to impossible. If by an off chance anyone out there does buy these and pulls the Cubs home opener, Cubs Vs Astros Sept 1, or Zambrano’s No hitter, I’d be willing to make a nice trade in your favor!
We Can Do Better!!
The past year has been one of the best years I’ve spent collecting anything! I spent a good while reading the blogs before I ever thought to start one myself. Once I did I became a part of an interesting network of friends. We all come from various backgrounds of life with one singular interest in common, and somehow get along really well. With the different talents we share why can’t we produce a superior quality product. I know it’s imposible to get a MLB liscense, but whatever we could kick out before the cease and desist letter would be ours. I’m not looking to overthrow the big two and make a million dollars, I’m just looking to make a slick little card set done by us for us. If we make a buck or two and ruffle some feathers down the road all the better! We would be able to try and fix the wrongs with todays cards and find out if we could do better. We can’t do worse!! I’m just looking for some conversation about the idea. When you think what a card consists of, photo, graphics, stats, personal info, and fun. We have the talents to succeed in this mission. Let me know whether this is a stupid idea or something we could get behind and actually go through with. I know I’m filled with ideas on how to improve the current crop of cards. It couldn’t really be that hard could it?
After reading Mario’s post about this auction for ten 1985 Pete Rose sets with this autographed card included with each set I went ahead and picked one up. I won the lot for $250. At the time there were about seven people interested in going in on the lot. So far I’ve heard from two of them and am pretty sure I’ll here from another soon. As of right now there are six sets left for grabs. The first six to leave a comment with their email address will have first dibs. What you will get is a 120 card subset produced by Topps in 1985 and one Pete Rose autographed card. All of this for a whopping $28!! The cards will ship out shortly after I receive them. The sooner I can get these gone the happier the wife will be!!!
In other news, I finally got the last two cards I needed for the ’08 masterpieces base set. It took buying a lot from Ebay of 61 cards but I finally got the last two! Now that leaves me the short prints. Here’s my list…..
92, 97, 99, 101, 102, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 115,116,117, 120
I have doubles of Gibson and Seaver and a ton from the base set for trade. If you need any from the set let me know!
I realize I’ve been pretty lazy on here lately but I really haven’t found anything new to write about in a while. I just killed a $50 gift card for Ebay so when that stuff starts to roll in I know I’ll have some good stuff to write about, including a box of ’86 Sportflics. The monthly card show is Sunday too, so hopefully I come out of that smelling like roses!!!
Update: 062Omega got the last spot. There is another lot up for grabs and if there is enough interest Imight be able to scoop that one up too. There is already 4 people left out so if six more still want one, I’ll see what I can do. Thanks goes out to Mario for the commercial and the rest of you for making this quick and painless!!!
